Good healthcare today requires more than good clinical skills. I recently attended a management and leadership program at IIM Ahmedabad focused on decision-making in healthcare. One key insight stood out for me: while healthcare has changed significantly, many of our ways of thinking and responding have not. Patient expectations, technology, insurance systems, and accountability have evolved — but solutions often rely on outdated mental models. The program emphasised the importance of correct problem framing, reflective decision-making, and building systems and communication that align with today’s healthcare realities. It reinforced a simple but powerful idea: clinical expertise alone is no longer enough. Leadership, clarity, and thoughtful communication are now essential parts of patient care.
